A Girl's Eye View: World Changers 2010 & 2011

I know that normally people post things when they happen or soon after. Today, this is not going to be the case. I was looking through my pictures for blog post inspiration and came across my World Changers photos. For those of you that do not know what World Changers is, the link should help. It will direct you to the World Changers website that has information about it. http://www.lifeway.com/worldchangers/ World Changers is a youth group mission trip that has you going out into the community that you go to ( whether it be in a different state, or across the country) and helping people in that community. You are split into groups and each group has a job site and a job to do. These jobs vary. Both of the times I went to WC I had roofing jobs that required us to take down the existing roof shingles and tar paper, fix any bad boards and then re-roof the house. Other people that I know cleaned houses, built ramps etc. It all depends on what the need is.
Roofing. Ha. Roofing is fun. Once you get the hang of it and get into the swing of things, it can go pretty easily and all come together. Of course you have your glitches, whether it be too many bad boards so you have to wait until more wood is delivered, or extreme heat that causes everyone to have to take more breaks or just simply messing up when shingling. But all in all, once everyone gets in their groove, it all comes together pretty well. And it is a nice skill to have for down the road, if my father will ever let me on the roof! :)
My first year with World Changers, my youth group was in Reidsville, North Carolina. We were given a roofing job. That week was a good experience. I learned how to roof as well as the importance of staying hydrated...can you say temperatures over 100 degrees plus being on a black roof? Lots of fun.

This past summer (2011), we went to Durham, North Carolina. I was again put on a roofing job. It was very rewarding at the end of the week to have finished this roof, the owner of the house was so sweet and it was a blessing to be able to help her out! We had a nice surprise this week and were blessed with a neighbor who was a professional roofer and was more than willing to help us out! It was so nice to be able to get help from someone who did what we were doing, for a living! It really showed us the goodhearted and goodnaturedness of this man, that he would come out of his air conditioned house during a hot week and willingly volunteer, not just one day for an hour or two, but for the entire week, all day long.

I know that that was a TON of pictures! And I am not finished yet! There is no way that I can tell or show y'all everything, even through pictures or words. It is really an experience and such a good one.

After we finished our job site we went to visit Duke University!
